Program Review

In 2005 the department completed a review of its economic development policies and programs. Many of the recommendations made during Program Review are being implemented in 2006-2007, including a new Strategic Investments Program Policy, the Small Business Support Program Policy (formerly Contributions to Business Development), a revised Policy on Program Partnerships, and a new Small Communities Initiatives Program Policy.

In addition, the “Barriers to Business” project addresses many of the problems identified in the departmental Program Review, and, in particular, the need to simplify programs and make them more accessible to business and, the reduction of unnecessary regulation and “red tape.” The department is currently preparing a comprehensive guide to starting a business in Nunavut.
